Solar Energy UK welcomes new Board Leadership Team
We are thrilled to announce that Caplor founder, Gareth Williams has been appointed Vice chair of Solar Energy UK by the association’s board, along with Matt Black; director at Solivus and adviser to solar investors and developers who will be taking on the role of Chair and Christelle Barnes, UK manager at SolarEdge, taking up the Vice Chair role also.
Solar Energy UK was founded in 1978 as the Solar Trade Association, initially to support the UK’s fledgling solar thermal industry. Later, as solar photovoltaic technologies became prevalent, the association’s remit was expanded to champion the breadth of the solar energy and energy storage value chain.
In 2021, over four decades on, their name was changed to better reflect this broader remit, although the underlying ethos remains the same – to be a powerful voice for their members and clean up the UK’s energy system by catalysing their collective strengths.
Chris Hewett said: “Solar Energy in the UK has entered a new era, with costs falling and subsidies no longer required to deploy the technology at scale. I am delighted to welcome the new leadership team for the Solar Energy UK Board, which reflects the growing diversity of the sector. Matt, Christelle and Gareth bring with them a combined wealth of experience across utility and rooftop solar, energy storage and solar heat.”
