Swapping sand and surfing in South Africa to paragliding and renewable energy after 25 years at Caplor.
Steve came over from South Africa in August 1994, working on other local farms before starting work at Caplor Farm in November that year – driving tractors, baling, rising potatoes, ploughing, re-planting etc.
Living on site, Steve became part of the Williams’ family and adored Mrs Williams Senior. He became more involved in other farm diversifications, and enjoyed the opportunity to do various household maintenance courses for the Caplor properties in Wales.
Over the years, the Caplor farm practices changed along with the developing renewable energy side. Steve began straying more into the new renewable energy business and is now an integral part of our installation team at Caplor Energy – he loves every minute of it!
His first job was establishing the huge wind turbine on farm, one of the first in Herefordshire, and installing the first Solar PV on the farm buildings, swiftly followed by the solar thermals. Today, Steve is experienced in installing all renewable energy solutions that we offer at Caplor, from Solar PV to Heat Pumps and even Electric Vehicle Charging Points.
Steve says “I miss the South African weather a lot, however now I love paragliding – 1500m up in the Gower soothes the cool climate here!”
Steve says “The people I’ve met from all walks of life, growing with the businesses here and the experience of being a part of it all are just great!”
Steve has recently celebrated his 60th birthday with us at Caplor, and considers himself very lucky
He has many memories of the last 25 years, from having BBQs in the snow to trailing grandchildren around the farm on the tractors.
From his origins in Capetown which he visits as often as he can, he has loved the experience, meeting people and growing with the Caplor Farm businesses over the last 25 years and looks forward to many more years – we congratulate Steve on such an outstanding achievement.
