The Farmers Weekly Awards celebrate the very best of British farming by recognising and rewarding innovation, hard work and passion for agriculture.
Gareth Williams, owner and MD of Caplor Energy, was one of three shortlisted for the Green Energy Farmer of the Year award in 2012.
The judging panel comprised of Farm Energy Centre managing director Andrew Kneeshaw, Will Frazer of Farmer’s Weekly and 2011’s winner Neil Gourlay. All were impressed with Caplor’s willingness to trial a variety of methods to reduce energy use and the company’s benchmarking of energy use and carbon reduction.
Since then the farm has continued to lead the way with their renewable energy installations. The farm now encompasses a mighty 140kW solar panel system, 2 biomass boilers and a solar thermal system. There are also two large saltwater batteries, which may be the future of the rapidly developing energy storage advancement.
