There’s nothing quite like solar shower power, as staff at Caplor Farm are finding out.
A solar hot water system has just been installed at Caplor, and the 30 evacuated tubes are projected to generate over 1,800 kWh of heat each year. This is in addition to annual CO2 savings of 0.59 tCO2e.
As well as heating water for the shower used by staff living on the farm, the solar panels will also be used for educational and demonstration purposes.
The new solar thermal system will help to further improve the sustainability of operations at Caplor. It will complement the solar PV system and wind turbine already in action onsite.
The farm has recently won a Carbon Reduction Award at the 2010 Low Carbon Economy Awards, for cutting its carbon footprint. It was also shortlisted for the 2010 national NEMEX Renewables Innovation Award, and Highly Commended in the 2010 Hereford & Worcester Chamber of Commerce Environmental Award.
