What People Say

Fraser Williams, 2010 Work Experience Student

Gareth’s team is inspiring, and are working hard to improve the environment, and ultimately increase the business size, and ever achieving Caplor’s vision to become a reality: ‘where rural based business can develop, diversify and positively contribute towards a sustainable community’.

Miss A Taylor, Fownhope Primary School

As headteacher of Fownhope’s primary school, I would like to acknowledge the number of ways in which Caplor Farm has supported our school.
We are delighted with the new solar system; it has already generated over 1000 kWh since installation at the beginning of May. The children have been eager to see how much the array has been generating.

Jack Rickard, Graduate Placement

By engaging in the ‘project green’ partnership with the University of Keele, Caplor Farm has simultaneously provided me with a placement in my area of interest and grabbed an opportunity to further improve its already high standards of environmental stewardship.  Over the course of 8 weeks I will conduct an assessment of the Farm’s Carbon Footprint and set-up continuous annual emissions monitoring, which will inform a review of the most appropriate reduction measures to implement.  The mutual benefits this project offers The Farm, myself as an employee, and the local community, embodies Caplor Farm’s ethos in every line of work it undertakes. From the brief time I spent with the company, Caplor came across as a young, dynamic and fresh business with a finger firmly on the pulse of the renewable energy sector. From day one I was treated as one of the family, which not only completely alleviated any nerves I had but, as time progressed, made me feel at ease asking questions or seeking advice. It was refreshing to be in part of a company that valued the input of every member of staff that worked there. You can read more about Jack’s experiences here.

Felicity Jones, Employee 2009/10

I have worked at Caplor throughout my gap year. It has been an exciting time to be involved – renewable energy activities have rapidly expanded, and the business has achieved recognition for its strong environmental credentials through being shortlisted for a two awards. My work has even involved a trip to The Gambia! Caplor has also been very supportive and accommodating of my voluntary commitments at Hereford Citizens Advice Bureau. The skills and knowledge I have developed this year have encouraged me to study MSc in Environmental Technology at Imperial College London, beginning in Autumn 2010.

Alan Ross, Art inSteel

I am trying to establish myself as an artist and set myself up with a small scale sustainable business producing handmade metal sculptures. Being based on the farm is proving to be a great help in my aims, allowing me space to develop my works with access to more recycled materials which can be incorporated into pieces of sculpture making it a more green initiative than would otherwise be possible. Another positive aspect of being based at Caplor Farm is that it is within cycling distance of my home which helps to minimise my carbon footprint as well as keeping me healthy.

Fownhope CRAG

Caplor Farm is a business which is making considerable efforts to develop in a sustainable way. Examples of this are its tree planting programme, water management  and the changes it has made towards using recycled materials to replace inorganic fertilisers. All these changes recognise the need to reduce the use of petrochemical based products and also to capture carbon.

Caplor Energy is a fantastic SME based in rural Herefordshire, with a company aim to increase green credentials and promote sustainable living within the County.  Growing up within the farming community in Herefordshire, the environment and efficient use of renewables, were of key importance and, will have an ever expanding importance in light of climate change.  On coming for interview at Caplor Farm, it was clear that the effort the team here put into leading the way from the front is highly commendable, with Caplor Farm having a range of renewable technologies serving the needs of the business. This year the firm was awarded with a category win for lowest carbon production of a small business in the West Midlands region.

Fiona Speak, Graduate Placement
I am very passionate about the fact that climate change can be slowed if we start acting at local levels to implement change and as shown by the many ‘green’ awards, Caplor is certainly leading the way.

Suzanne Green, Graduate Placement
As soon as I started researching the company it became clear that they were both hugely competent and would be a joy to work for. This impression was due to the accessible nature of their website: the regularly updated news stories revealed a fast moving business with endless opportunities that would allow me to use my current skill set whilst developing the skills required for the rest of Project Green. Coming to their offices for interview confirmed this, I was shown the farm, and given an overview of the three aspects of Caplor. I was particularly struck by the effort put into not only selling ‘Green’ products and the ‘Green’ community, but also into the ‘Green’ credentials of the firm itself.
