Winner – Environmental Champion: Pride of Herefordshire Awards 2010: Caplor Limited has been awarded the Environmental Champion Award at the Pride of Herefordshire awards 2010.
The Pride of Herefordshire awards aimed to celebrate the heroes throughout the County. The awards, run by Herefordshire Partnership, of which Herefordshire Council and NHS Herefordshire are members, have nine categories.
Winner – Large Farms over 300 hectares: Wye Valley AONB Awards: Wye Valley AONB aims to preserve the exceptional landscape; impressive geology; historical legacies and Wye VAlley Wildlife. Caplor Farm has won the award for large farms in the Wye Valley AONB area, excelling in all criteria.
Wye Valley AONB, said “the judges were very impressed by the diverse initiatives in place. Caplor Farm has developed a forward thinking approach to farming that reduces carbon emissions, maintains a high quality landscape and supports wildlife”.
Winner – Carbon Reduction Cost Saving: 2010 WM Low Carbon Economy Awards: Caplor farm was recognised for the major reductions in its carbon output achieved through the increased use of renewable energy sources and the offsetting of unavoidable emissions. It has now also branched out into the community, educating local children on the working methods it employs and providing ‘green’ research placements to graduates.
Highly Commended – Environment: 2010 Hereford & Worcester Chamber of Commerce: The Hereford & Worcester Chamber of Commerce awarded Caplor ‘Highly Commended’ for its exceptional level of environmental commitment throughout its rural enterprises.
Caplor was one of a small selected group of businesses to receive the honour of being Highly Commended
Finalist – NEMEX Renewables Innovation: 2010 Environment and Energy Awards: Caplor Farm’s onsite wind turbine made it to the final round of the 2010 national NEMEX Renewables Innovation Award
The NEMEX judges were looking for organisations that showed an ‘innovative approach towards the installation of small scale, embedded renewable energy systems’.
The judges were impressed by the way that Caplor’s 15kW turbine benefits such a diverse range of stakeholders. It contributes to the farm’s energy needs for potato grading and cold storage, as well as powering other on-farm businesses such as the‘Eggs and Veg’ local food initiative.
Winner – Carbon Positive: 2009 West Midlands Business in the Community Awards: For organisations successfully cutting their carbon emissions and internally managing their carbon footprint
The Awards were organised by Business in the Community, with the support of Advantage West Midlands, Sustainability West Midlands, Birmingham Environmental Partnership, Midlands Environmental Business Club, and Argent.
Top 50 Green Leader – Gareth Williams (Managing Director): 2010 Sustainability West Midlands: Gareth Williams was named one of the top 50 Green Leaders in the West Midlands.
The competition, run by Sustainability West Midlands, aimed to identify the 50 individuals who were most likely to help the region achieve a more sustainable future with lower carbon. Gareth was chosen by an expert judging panel from over 70 nominations of individuals who are all making a difference for the West Midlands.
